Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has received two social impact honours in the United States.
The actress announced the recognition on social media, revealing that Israel Tribune and 90210 Enterprise presented her with a Social Impact Award and a Lifetime Social Impact Recognition.
According to Omotola, the honours mark the first joint recognition by the two organisations.
The recognition follows her decision to donate the producers’ earnings from her film, Mother’s Love, towards the education of children in underserved communities.
The film featured Makoko, one of the communities that inspired the social initiative.
Reflecting on the decision, Omotola said she did not expect the gesture to resonate with as many people as it has.
“When I decided to donate our entire producers’ earnings from Mother’s Love: The Movie to the education of children from underserved communities such as Makoko, which was one of the backgrounds of our movie, little did I know how many it would resonate with, touch, or be watched by,” she wrote.
Describing the initiative as a “little act of obedience,” the actress said it had continued to inspire others.
Omotola expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying she was thankful for the opportunity to combine her passion for filmmaking with giving back to communities.
“Thank you! I am truly grateful to God to be able to do what I love and give back through it,” she added.
