Chief of Air Staff Commiserates With Zamfara Govt Over Recent Airstrike

In a heartfelt show of solidarity, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has expressed his deepest condolences to the Zamfara State Government following the tragic airstrike in Dangebe, Maradun Local Government Area, on January 11, 2025.

The incident, which deeply impacted the community, was described by the Air Chief as a “regrettable error,” with a firm commitment to preventing such occurrences in the future.

During his visit to Gusau on Thursday, Air Marshal Abubakar conveyed his sympathy to the state and praised the swift and responsible handling of the situation by the state government.

He reassured Governor Dauda Lawal that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remains fully dedicated to safeguarding the lives and security of Zamfara’s citizens while ensuring precision in future operations.

In an act of support for those affected, the Nigerian Air Force has provided financial assistance, pledged to rebuild homes, and replaced two motorcycles lost during the incident.

Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that these measures are part of NAF’s ongoing commitment to community welfare and restoring trust in air operations.

Governor Dauda Lawal, in his discussions with the Air Chief, called for the establishment of a permanent Air Force base or hangar in Zamfara once the Gusau International Airport is operational.

Recognizing the state’s ongoing battle with banditry, Governor Lawal urged for a greater military presence to address the mounting security challenges in the Northwest.

Appreciating the NAF’s role in the recovery process, the governor commended Air Marshal Abubakar for the assistance provided to the victims, ensuring the necessary support is in place for their recovery.

In a move that underscores the strengthening of ties between the state government and the Air Force, Governor Lawal formally presented the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for a new Air Force base in Zamfara, further solidifying the state’s commitment to enhancing regional security.

The establishment of this new Air Force base promises to bolster counterinsurgency operations, improve rapid-response capabilities, and fortify the fight against insurgency and banditry, providing a stronger military presence to protect and serve the people of Zamfara.
