In an Igbosere Chiefs Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the police charged six people with piracy of Toyin Abraham’s film Malaika.

Police attorneys from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos presented the defendants, Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S. Akano, Mrs. Agboola Motunrayo, and Mrs. Adebiyi Suliat, before Chief Magistrate E. Ogunkanmi.

They were charged with conspiracy, theft of intellectual property, and trying to influence the outcome of justice.

Morufu Animashaun, the prosecutor, told the court that they had all planned and carried out the alleged illegal conduct in January at Apapa.

To avoid being arrested, Animashaun told him further. Animashaun informed the court that the offenders had violated sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and were punishable under the saw laws.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Animashaun asked the court to remand them to the Correctional Center until the outcome of the charge after they entered a not guilty plea.

On the other hand, their lawyer, Ganiyu Oyarevuegbe, made an oral bail request using the most comprehensive possible language.
