Zamfara is set to gain a direct commercial air connection with Abuja after the state government reached an agreement with XEJet Limited to begin scheduled flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The partnership is expected to improve access to the state while making it easier for investors, businesses and visitors to travel between Zamfara and the nation’s capital.
The agreement was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed on Monday, according to a statement issued by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to Governor Dauda Lawal.
Under the arrangement, XEJet is expected to commence bi-weekly flights on the route from next month.
“Under the agreement, XEJet will operate bi-weekly flights beginning next month,” the statement said.
“The new air route will enhance access to Zamfara and open greater opportunities for investors, businesses and visitors.”
The signing ceremony was chaired by Mani Mummuni, the state’s deputy governor, while Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, secretary to the state government, signed the agreement on behalf of Zamfara.
For the state government, the new flight connection is part of a broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure and make Zamfara more accessible to potential investors.
Mummuni said the agreement was consistent with the administration’s plans to strengthen transport links and support economic activity across the state.
He also highlighted the development of Gusau International Airport, describing it as a major infrastructure project intended to improve the movement of people and goods.
“The Gusau International Airport was built entirely from scratch and completed within two years,” he said.
“The main goal of constructing the airport is to make it easier and more efficient for people and goods to move, which should help boost the economy.”
The deputy governor said the administration had been engaging international investors and donor agencies as part of its efforts to attract new investment into Zamfara.
“Governor Lawal has been actively seeking international investors and donor agencies, all of whom are willing to invest in Zamfara,” Mummuni said.
The state government believes the new route could help turn that interest into more concrete investment by reducing the travel barriers faced by businesses and potential investors.
Mummuni said the availability of scheduled commercial flights would make it easier for prospective investors to visit the state, while improving the movement of people and goods.
He added that accessibility remained a key priority for the administration as it works to create “a more welcoming environment for business growth and investment”.
The Gusau-Abuja connection will therefore provide a direct link between Zamfara’s capital and the Federal Capital Territory, with the state government expecting the route to support business, tourism and wider economic activity.
