Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place at the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship have ended after the team finished eighth at the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship.
The Nigerians suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ghana in the seventh-place playoff, ending their campaign with two wins and three losses.
Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals after progressing from the group stage but narrowly lost 3-2 to Morocco.
The Nigerians took the opening set 25-20 before Morocco won the next two. Nigeria levelled the match with a 26-24 victory in the fourth set, but Morocco secured the deciding set 15-12.
Nigeria then entered the classification stage, where they lost 3-1 to Rwanda before Ghana ended their campaign with a straight-sets victory.
Meanwhile, hosts Tunisia retained the African title after defeating Cameroon 3-0 in Friday’s final in Tunis.
Nigeria’s eighth-place finish means the team missed out on the three African qualification spots for the 2027 World Championship.
