Governor Otti of Abia State has ruled out seeking the presidency or any other political office after completing his tenure.
Speaking in on a televised interview, Otti said he has no plans to contest for the Senate, local government chairmanship or any other elective position after leaving office.
The governor was responding to questions about former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s presidential ambition and whether he would consider a presidential bid in the future.
Otti said he has no disagreement with Obi and would allow him, as well as other politicians, to campaign freely in Abia if they choose to do so.
He said democracy allows political actors to seek support across the country, adding that Obi would be welcome to campaign in the state if he decides to run.
Otti also said his decision to retire from politics is not linked to any disagreement with other political figures.
According to him, he entered public office to fulfil what he described as a calling and intends to focus on delivering on that responsibility during his tenure.
The governor said that once his tenure is completed, he will leave elective politics rather than pursue another position.
He also ruled out seeking the presidency, saying he does not intend to move from the governorship to another elective office.
Otti said he believes his current responsibility is to serve the people of Abia and complete the assignment for which he sought office.
