Pakistan women’s captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup clash with India in Dubai.
Sana was sanctioned under Article 2.5, which addresses conduct or gestures capable of provoking an aggressive response from a batter following a dismissal.
The offence occurred in her second over after she caught and bowled India opener Shafali Verma, who made 12 runs from six deliveries. Sana subsequently gestured towards the pavilion.
She admitted the breach and accepted the punishment, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The ICC also added one demerit point to her record, taking her total to two offences within 24 months.
Her earlier offence came during Pakistan’s T20I against Ireland in August 2025. Under ICC regulations, a Level 1 breach can result in a reprimand, a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Sana, who took over as Pakistan women’s captain in October 2024 at the age of 22, now has two demerit points. Accumulating four or more points within a 24-month period can lead to suspension points and a ban.
India secured a seven-wicket victory and maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament, while also booking a place in the semi-finals. Pakistan, still seeking their first Asia Cup title, must beat Hong Kong in their final group game to remain in contention.
