Calls for government assistance are growing in Imo State as more than 30 indigenes recently repatriated from South Africa seek inclusion in the state’s ₦1 million reintegration grant.
The returnees gathered near the Imo State Government House in Owerri on Thursday, carrying placards and appealing to Governor Hope Uzodimma to extend the support to them.
They said, unlike some other returnees, their names were yet to be captured under the programme, adding that the grant would help them rebuild their lives and secure livelihoods.
Uzodimma introduced the ₦1 million grant in June while receiving the first batch of Imo indigenes repatriated from South Africa.
The latest group is now asking the state government to broaden the scheme to accommodate them.
