The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-time verification system for West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results, fixing the verification fee at ₦4,000.
Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will verify their WAEC results once through JAMB, after which the outcome will be made available to their chosen institutions.
The two examination bodies announced the new framework in a joint press statement on the implementation of the WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
According to the statement, all candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB are expected to undertake the verification exercise only once.
“Candidates are to pay ₦4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement said.
JAMB and WAEC said tertiary institutions would subsequently rely on the verified results shared by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.
The bodies stressed that candidates who had completed the verification process must not be subjected to additional verification charges by tertiary institutions.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” they said.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
The arrangement, according to the two bodies, will enable candidates to use a single verification for multiple purposes, eliminating the need to repeatedly verify the same O’Level result.
JAMB and WAEC said the initiative would significantly reduce the stress, time and cost associated with repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
Candidates can initiate the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any other internet-enabled location.
The examination bodies urged prospective students to take advantage of the improved system, assuring them that once their WASSCE O’Level results are successfully verified, the outcome would be available for use by relevant institutions.
They said the collaboration was aimed at putting the interests of candidates first, reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while safeguarding the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
