Seven people have been killed and two others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Kara, Ibafo, in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident on Monday, August 24, 2026, saying the crash occurred at about midnight along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor.
According to the FRSC, three vehicles were involved in the collision: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
The agency said nine male occupants were involved in the crash, with seven losing their lives and two sustaining injuries.
The FRSC Ibafo Outpost reportedly received information about the incident at about 4:04 a.m. and arrived at the scene approximately five minutes later.
Preliminary findings identified speed violation as the likely cause of the crash, although the agency stressed that further investigation would be required to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The bodies of the deceased were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The vehicles involved were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further investigation and necessary action.
The FRSC urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise greater caution on the expressway by avoiding excessive speed, maintaining safe following distances and remaining alert while driving.
The agency also advised motorists to take additional precautions when travelling at night, when poor visibility and driver fatigue can significantly increase the risk of serious road crashes.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
