The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalised the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). He reaffirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct the elections as scheduled.
While noting that INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly, Prof. Amupitan acknowledged that certain items in the electoral schedule could be affected depending on when lawmakers pass the amended Act.
“For now, the commission has no choice but to operate under the provisions of the existing Electoral Act,” he said, emphasizing INEC’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election in 2027.
