Nollywood Filmmaker, Stanley Amandi, Linked to Alleged Military Coup Arrested

Authorities have detained Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Stanley Amandi, following claims of civilian involvement in a foiled attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu. The former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is alleged to have been recruited to assist the plotters in spreading propaganda.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations into the matter have concluded. Military officers implicated will face court-martial proceedings, while civilians, including Amandi, are expected to stand trial in regular courts. Authorities emphasized that all breaches of professional and ethical standards will be addressed under the law.

Officials said the investigation revealed a coordinated plan involving select military personnel and civilian collaborators.

The military has assured the public that the situation is under control and that national security remains a top priority. “Any attempt to undermine democratic governance will be met with full legal and disciplinary action”, a Defence Headquarters spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, industry colleagues and members of the Actors Guild have called for due process, emphasizing that allegations alone should not define Amandi’s public image.
