2027: Crisis rocks APM as South-South Chairmen reject Makinde’s leadership

The South-South state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, have passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of undermining party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The chairmen, in a joint statement, alleged that Makinde had sidelined established party leaders and appointed campaign coordinators who were not members of the party.

They expressed concern over what they described as inadequate consultation, recognition and engagement with the party’s existing leadership in organising the presidential campaign.

The statement was signed by the APM chairmen in Rivers, Dagodog Whyte; Bayelsa, Peace Osarama; Akwa Ibom, Utuku Abangaye Edet; Edo, Ugoigwe Onyeka Ogechukwu; Delta, Prince Henry Ese; and Cross River, Ntami Nkanu Esage.

The state chairmen also accused Makinde of dishonesty, poor financial management and a lack of effective leadership.

They said the presidential candidate lacked the political will, focus and capacity to lead the party effectively into the 2027 elections.

According to the chairmen, Makinde had failed to work with established party structures nationwide, choosing instead to appoint campaign coordinators from outside the APM.

They further alleged that the candidate was using the party to advance his personal political ambition rather than operating within its established structures.
