JAMB Commences SMS Resit Alerts for 2025 UTME Candidates in Affected States

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates affected by technical disruptions during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will begin receiving text messages from Thursday regarding their rescheduled exams.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, confirmed the development during a press briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday. He revealed that a total of 379,997 candidates from Lagos and the five South-East states are expected to participate in the resit.

“206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 candidates from 92 centres in the Owerri zone were affected,” Oloyede stated.

In a rare move, the Registrar took full responsibility for what he described as the result of “sabotage,” adding that corrective measures were being put in place to ensure fairness for all affected candidates.

“The affected candidates will start getting text messages for rescheduling from tomorrow. I apologise, and I take full responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, performance data from the 2025 UTME revealed that over 1.5 million out of 1.9 million candidates scored below 200 out of a total 400 marks, sparking renewed discussions about the quality of education and exam preparedness nationwide.
