Piastri Leads McLaren 1-2 in Miami for Third Straight Win, Extends Championship Lead

Oscar Piastri secured a commanding victory for McLaren at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix on Monday, leading a dominant 1-2 finish alongside teammate Lando Norris. George Russell claimed the third spot on the podium for Mercedes.
As reported by the official Formula 1 website, the win marks Piastri’s third consecutive triumph and his fourth overall this season, significantly boosting his lead in the World Championship standings. The 24-year-old Australian delivered a composed and strategic performance, overtaking pole-sitter Max Verstappen on lap 14 and never relinquishing the lead.
Piastri now holds a 16-point advantage over Norris in the standings, solidifying his position as a leading contender for the 2025 title. Norris’s second-place finish underscored McLaren’s dominance, completing a rare and impressive one-two result. According to The Guardian and ESPN, this outcome reflects the team’s resurgence, with the Miami victory marking McLaren’s first trio of consecutive wins in more than 25 years.
The race began with Verstappen at the front, but a lock-up at Turn One opened the door for Piastri to close in. The Australian made his move with clinical precision, passing Verstappen decisively. Verstappen later dropped to fourth after being overtaken by George Russell during a Virtual Safety Car phase.
The Miami Grand Prix drew a record-breaking crowd of 275,000 fans over the weekend, highlighting the sport’s growing popularity. With consistent performances from Piastri and shrewd strategic calls from McLaren, both driver and team are emerging as major forces in the ongoing championship battle.
