World Bank and Korea Launch Global Digital Knowledge Center to Boost AI and Digital Growth

he World Bank Group (WBG), in partnership with the Republic of Korea, has launched the Korea-WBG Global Digital Knowledge Center, a hub designed to accelerate digital transformation and harness AI for inclusive growth and job creation.

“The center combines Korea’s digital expertise with the World Bank’s global knowledge to create real impact for governments, businesses, and citizens,” said Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, WBG Vice President for East Asia and Pacific.

Nearly one-third of the world remains offline, and less than 1% of people in low-income countries use generative AI tools. The center aims to expand digital opportunities, focusing on sustainable, inclusive solutions.

Ji-young Choi, Deputy Minister for International Affairs of Korea, said Korea’s digital industry helped the country avoid the middle-income trap, and the partnership seeks to help other nations replicate this success.

The center will work with Korea’s leading digital agencies to provide knowledge products, training, and support for digital initiatives. Sangbu Kim, WBG Vice President for Digital, noted the center will help countries close the digital divide through research, technical guidance, and targeted investments.

Its work focuses on three pillars:

  1. Building inclusive, affordable, and trusted digital infrastructure.

  2. Supporting efficient, secure, and citizen-focused digital public services.

  3. Fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital opportunities for women and youth.

Through these initiatives, the center aims to equip governments and local experts with tools to implement effective digital strategies and promote sustainable economic growth.
