Wike: Tinubu administration has redefined infrastructure development in Abuja

FCT minister says major road projects remain on course for completion ahead of 2027 elections….

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the Tinubu administration has significantly changed the pace and scope of infrastructure development in Abuja.

Wike made the assessment on Wednesday in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing road and infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and opening up new areas of the nation’s capital for development.

Among the projects inspected were the Arterial Road SI, linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20, also known as Oladipo Diya Way, in Kaura District, as well as Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, which connects to Arterial Road N5, Obafemi Awolowo Way.

The minister also visited the construction site of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.

Wike said the scale of ongoing construction across the FCT reflected what he described as a major shift in the administration’s approach to infrastructure.

“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concern,” he said.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, maintaining that the projects were still on schedule for completion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He singled out the Arterial Road N16 project, noting that its challenging terrain and extensive bridge construction had made the project particularly demanding.

Despite the difficulties, Wike said the contractor had committed to completing the project by the first week of January.

“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” he said.

Wike also inspected the ongoing remodelling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course, saying the facility would be ready to resume full operations and host major tournaments by November.

On the financing of the projects, the FCT minister disclosed that implementation of the 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent.

He said although delays in the initial release of funds affected payments to contractors, the situation had since improved, allowing work to continue at full capacity.

Wike also turned his attention to the emerging political season, urging politicians seeking elective positions to campaign on their records and achievements rather than rely on distractions and political rhetoric.

He said the focus should remain on what political office seekers have accomplished and what they intend to offer voters.
