VP Shettima Returns for AFCON Final with Super Eagles Lucky Charm

Vice President Kashim Shettima will return for Sunday’s AFCON Final, having flown into Cote d’Ivoire with the fortunate charm that helped the Super Eagles defeat South Africa in a thrilling semifinal.

Several senior officials told SCORENigeria Shettima will lead a strong Presidential delegation to Sunday’s AFCON Final against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria advanced to their seventh AFCON Final on Wednesday in Bouake, beating South Africa 4-2 on penalties after both sides were tied 1-1 following extra time.

Most Nigerians dreaded the game going into a penalty shootout following the heroics of South African goalie Ronwen Williams, who saved four.

Vice President Shettima celebrated with the victorious Super Eagles in the dressing room.

He later gave the team a cash gift, while promising a special reward for them from the government.

Top government officials including the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and the Secretary to the Federation, George Akume, have visited Cote d’Ivoire to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
