The late Emir, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd), was remembered as a statesman who dedicated his life to unity, service, and faith.

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday led a Federal Government delegation to the funeral of the Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd), in Kebbi State.
The burial, held at the Zuru Central Mosque after Jumu’ah prayers, drew dignitaries including Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shettima described the late Emir’s passing as a “profound national loss,” noting that the monarch was a symbol of integrity and service to the nation.
“This is a sad day for Kebbi State. This is a sad day for Nigeria,” Shettima said, as he delivered President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the family, the Zuru Emirate, and the people of Kebbi. He assured them of the Federal Government’s support during their period of mourning.
The Vice President hailed the late Emir’s life of sacrifice, recalling his military service and commitment to Nigeria’s unity. “He placed his life on the line to keep Nigeria together. May Allah grant him eternal rest in Aljanna Firdausi,” he prayed.
At the residence of the deceased, Shettima emphasized that the day marked not only a personal loss for Zuru Emirate but also a moment of reflection for the entire country.
On behalf of the family, Sadiq Sami, one of the Emir’s sons, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for sending the Vice President to condole with them. He described his father as a leader who governed with fairness, humility, and honesty.
“My father led with justice and integrity. His legacy will endure in the values he instilled and the lives he touched,” he said.
