Troops of the Nigerian Army have apprehended a wanted militia kingpin, Haruna Abdulhamid, during a sting operation in Gidan Waya, Nasarawa State.
According to a reliable source, the arrest was carried out by troops of Sector II, Operation Whirl Stroke, deployed to Nasarawa Eggon, following a tip-off. Abdulhamid had been on the radar of security agencies for his alleged involvement in a series of criminal activities, including coordinated attacks on communities, kidnapping, and illegal arms dealings.
The source disclosed that the suspect was nabbed while attempting to collect proceeds from one of his criminal operations, based on credible human intelligence. He is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
In a related development in the North East, troops, working alongside local hunters and Hybrid Forces, engaged terrorists during a fighting patrol to Pambula Village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. One terrorist was neutralised, and troops recovered a weapon and four motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.
Similarly, in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, troops engaged insurgents in a gun battle, killing one and recovering weapons. They also destroyed terrorist hideouts and key support structures.
The operation further led to the surrender of three members of the ISWAP/JAS group an adult female and two minors who are currently in military custody.
