Russian President Putin Orders Ban on Foreign-Made Military Clothing from 2026
In a significant shift toward military self-reliance, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the procurement of foreign-made clothing and gear for the armed forces, effective January 1, 2026.
Under the new mandate, only Russian companies with manufacturing facilities inside the country will be eligible to supply military uniforms and related equipment.
By 2027, the requirement will extend to all fabrics and knitted materials, which must also be produced domestically.
The sweeping measure aims to cut out foreign suppliers entirely, ensuring that every aspect of military apparel from raw materials to finished products is sourced within Russia.
Covered under the ban are uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, footwear, special clothing, field equipment, and sanitary items, all acquired through the state defence procurement system.
According to the Kremlin, the policy is designed to fortify national supply chains, protect strategic industries, and boost the domestic textile and manufacturing sectors.
