Rolex Dee Regains Freedom After Months in Detention Over Alleged Defamation

Nigerian singer Rolex Dee has regained his freedom after spending more than three months in detention over an alleged defamation case involving Fuji musician Taye Currency.

MC Bokujaka, who spearheaded the social media campaign calling for the singer’s release, announced the development in a series of videos shared on Tuesday.

In one of the clips, Rolex Dee was seen lying on a bed in a hotel room and asking Bokujaka not to film him.

Announcing the release on Instagram, Bokujaka described the development as a relief for the singer’s family, friends and supporters who had campaigned for his freedom.

“ROLEX DEE has been released! Finally, the news many Nigerians have been waiting for! This is a moment of relief for his family, friends, supporters, and everyone who has been calling for his release,” he wrote.

He added that he hoped those involved in the case would be able to move forward peacefully after the controversy surrounding the singer’s detention.

The release came nearly two months after a court granted Rolex Dee ₦100 million bail.

The singer was initially arrested in April 2026 over allegations that he defamed Taye Currency during an interview on the Agbaletu programme.

He was subsequently released but rearrested in early July after operatives of the Oyo State Police Command reportedly lured him from Lagos under the pretext of a reconciliation meeting.

His detention prompted calls for his release on social media, with Bokujaka among those publicly campaigning on his behalf.
