President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed his commitment to safeguarding religious freedom across Nigeria, assuring citizens that his administration remains firmly dedicated to protecting people of all faiths from violence, discrimination, and persecution.
In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message delivered on Wednesday, the President подчеркed that national security, unity, and stability remain among the foremost responsibilities of his government.
He reaffirmed that the constitutional rights of Nigerians to live in peace, practise their faith freely, and pursue their aspirations without fear would continue to be upheld.
According to Tinubu, every Nigerian—regardless of religious affiliation or ethnic background—deserves safety, dignity, and equal protection under the law.
“On this Holy Day, I wish all Christians in Nigeria and around the world a Merry Christmas,” the President said. “I thank God for the opportunity to serve as the leader of our great country, and I pray for peace in our land, especially among people of different religious beliefs.”
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect people of all faiths from violence,” he added.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of Christmas, noting that the birth of Jesus Christ offers a moment to acknowledge the immense contributions Christians have made—and continue to make—to national development, compassion, and service to humanity.
The President noted that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has consistently reaffirmed its resolve to protect Nigeria’s security, cohesion, and stability, a commitment he said is firmly rooted in faith in God and adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He cautioned against religious persecution, stressing that no citizen should suffer hardship for expressing or practising their beliefs. Tinubu observed that love for God and compassion for humanity are shared values across all major faiths and should serve as a unifying force for the nation.
The President further disclosed that throughout the year, he has engaged extensively with leaders of Nigeria’s major religious groups in response to concerns about intolerance and insecurity.
He said these consultations would be strengthened to enhance cooperation between government and faith-based institutions, prevent conflict, and promote peaceful coexistence.
Extending warm Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, Tinubu offered prayers for enduring peace, particularly among communities of diverse religious beliefs. He encouraged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the teachings of Jesus Christ, whom he described as the Prince of Peace.
He also advised Nigerians travelling during the festive period to exercise patience, discipline, and respect for traffic laws, wishing them safe journeys and a joyful Christmas celebration.
