Patience Umeh Reveals Chioma Chukwuka’s Stance on Romantic Roles, Sparks Debate

The veteran actress says Chukwuka avoids on-screen intimacy due to her Catholic roots—yet past film roles tell a different story.

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Umeh has stirred conversation in the film industry after suggesting that her colleague, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, does not accept kissing or romantic roles in movies.

Umeh made the remarks during a recent episode of the Where Is The Lie podcast, where she spoke about Chukwuka’s approach to acting. According to her, the award-winning actress has consistently turned down intimate roles because of her strict Catholic upbringing.

“Chioma Chukwuka was raised in a very Catholic home. She doesn’t accept kissing or romantic roles in movies. I know this from experience. She has always been disciplined and was even a legionary in church,” Umeh said.

Her comments have sparked debate among fans and Nollywood followers, especially as Chukwuka has, in fact, taken on romantic scenes in the past. One example is the 2023 film Seven Doors, where she appeared in a kissing scene with fellow actor Femi Adebayo.

Chukwuka, known for her versatility and family-friendly reputation, has not publicly responded to Umeh’s claims. The discussion, however, raises broader questions about the influence of personal values, religion, and audience expectations on Nollywood actors’ career choices.
