The Oyo State Police Command says it will commence Operation Velvet on Wednesday as part of efforts to strengthen the protection of lives and property while ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations across the state.
The operation will target vehicles operating without proper registration or valid documentation, as well as those without the required number plates or with plates deliberately defaced, covered or otherwise obscured. The command warned that vehicles found violating relevant laws would be impounded, while owners or other responsible persons could face prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the exercise is strictly for law enforcement and must not become an avenue for harassment or extortion.
Officers deployed for the operation have been directed to act professionally and within the law, with disciplinary action promised against any personnel found intimidating, exploiting or extorting members of the public. The command appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with the exercise and comply with applicable laws.
