Opeyemi Famakin Questions Cheap ‘High-End’ Body Mists Sold in Nigeria

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing premium body mists from vendors, particularly products being sold at prices significantly below their usual retail value.
Famakin raised the concern in a social media post, questioning how high-end celebrity-branded body mists that reportedly sell for about ₦40,000 elsewhere could be offered for as little as ₦4,000 in Nigeria.
He advised consumers to treat unusually low prices as a warning sign and to investigate the source of such products before making a purchase.
According to Famakin, some sellers may insist that their products are genuine despite concerns about their authenticity. He also warned that vendors could deliberately increase prices to create the impression that the products are original.
The food critic therefore advised consumers who want to purchase such body mists to patronise trusted and verified retailers rather than buying from vendors whose sources cannot be established.
Famakin said his consumer advice is not limited to recommending products he considers worth buying.
He added that he would also continue drawing attention to products he believes could pose health risks, including potential long-term dangers such as cancer.
His warning comes amid broader concerns among consumers about the authenticity and safety of beauty and personal-care products sold through informal retail channels.
However, Famakin did not identify specific body-mist brands or provide evidence establishing that the products he referenced contain substances capable of causing cancer. His comments were framed as a caution to consumers to verify products and sellers before purchasing.
