Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), amid growing opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two political figures were formally received into the party on Sunday at the NDC national secretariat in Abuja, where they were presented with membership cards during a registration ceremony captured in a viral video circulating online.
Their move comes shortly after Obi confirmed his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso had earlier hinted at ongoing consultations with the NDC over the formation of a broader political alliance.
Before their formal registration, both leaders held a closed-door meeting with top NDC officials at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.
The meeting, held in the Guzape area of Abuja, is believed to be part of efforts to strengthen opposition collaboration ahead of the next presidential election.
Supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso movement gathered at the venue, chanting “O-K is okay” as the two politicians arrived for the talks.
Kwankwaso appeared in his trademark red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap with a white babanriga, while Obi was dressed in a black kaftan and cap.
The latest development follows recent comments by Buba Galadima, who disclosed during a stakeholders’ meeting that two major political figures were set to unveil a new political platform.
