OAU to Honour Senator Adedayo Adeyeye with Lifetime Leadership Award
Nigeria’s premier university celebrates the NPA chairman’s legacy in public service, youth development, and democratic advocacy.
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, has announced plans to honour Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), with its prestigious Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award in recognition of his enduring impact in public service, politics, and national development.
In an official letter dated May 6, 2025, signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, Professor Francis Fagbohun, and Faculty Week Committee Chairperson, Dr. Mary Salawu, the university cited Senator Adeyeye’s exceptional contributions to education policy, institutional governance, youth mentorship, and the promotion of national unity as key reasons for the award.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the university’s main complex, during the second edition of its Faculty Week.
“In recognition of your impactful contribution and commitment to excellence in public service, we have selected you as the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award,” the university stated.
As part of the event, Senator Adeyeye has also been invited to deliver a keynote lecture titled “Mentorship: A Tool for Fostering Progressive Democracy.” The lecture aligns with the Faculty Week’s theme: “Empowering the Next Generation through Structured Mentorship and Professional Engagement.”
The Faculty Week aims to bridge generational gaps by connecting accomplished alumni with graduating students through mentorship and dialogue on nation-building.
Senator Adeyeye, a former Minister of State for Works and ex-lawmaker representing Ekiti Senatorial District, was appointed chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July 2024. He is widely regarded for his strategic leadership and policy-driven approach to governance and youth empowerment.
