NPFL bans Warri Wolves fan over alleged assault on match official

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has barred Warri Wolves supporter Keno Iyaruwe from attending all league matches over an alleged assault on a match official.

The incident reportedly occurred after Warri Wolves’ matchday 10 clash with four-time champions Kano Pillars in Ozoro on Sunday. Iyaruwe is currently in police custody in Warri, according to reports.

Following the league’s directive, Warri Wolves have agreed to display his name and photograph at all stadium entrances to prevent him from accessing venues for the club’s matches.

The Seasiders reaffirmed their firm opposition to violence and any behaviour that endangers the safety, dignity and integrity of match officials, players, club officials and other stakeholders.

In addition to the ban, the NPFL has fined Warri Wolves N4.2 million and deducted three points and three goals from the club.

The team will also play its next three home fixtures behind closed doors as part of the sanctions.
