Obi Pledges Stricter Electoral Reforms And Sanctions For Fraud

The presidential flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has promised comprehensive legal reforms to penalize electoral misconduct if elected in 2027.

Addressing a party town hall in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Obi declared that his administration will enforce uncompromising measures against vote manipulation to rebuild institutional trust.

Under his proposed framework, electoral fraud will carry severe legal penalties, including mandatory imprisonment for compromised officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and accomplices.

“We will rig those who rig elections. Obi asserted.

“Electoral fraud will attract direct prosecution and jail terms for compromise, including culpable INEC staff and political actors who attempt to subvert the people’s will”.

Beyond punitive measures, the former Anambra State governor advocated tighter eligibility standards for public office seekers, proposing mandatory verification of basic primary and secondary education.

He warned that individuals presenting forged academic credentials or making false declarations will face swift criminal prosecution. Emphasizing institutional independence, Obi stated that restoring credibility to the nation’s democratic process remains central to his 2027 presidential ambition.
