Nigeria Police Launch Investigation Into Viral Video of Armed Officers Escorting Actress Angela Okorie

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a viral video showing Nollywood actress Angela Okorie jogging in public while being escorted by armed police officers—a scene that has sparked widespread public backlash.

The video, which quickly made rounds on social media, shows Okorie jogging outdoors flanked by uniformed officers carrying rifles. While the actress initially drew attention, much of the public focus shifted to the officers’ unusual conduct.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the officers’ behavior, describing it as “inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected” of the Nigeria Police.

“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read in part.

Adejobi added that internal processes are underway to identify the officers involved and determine the exact circumstances under which the video was filmed. He assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the findings of the review.

While unconfirmed, there is speculation that the footage may have been taken on the set of Queens of Guns, a project Okorie has recently begun promoting. However, the actress has yet to issue any official statement regarding the incident.

The police noted that whether or not the scene was part of a scripted production, the presence and conduct of armed officers in such a context raise serious concerns about professionalism within the force.
