NEPWHAN Urges Sustained Media Coverage Of Healthcare Challenges In Borno

The Borno State chapter of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) has urged the media to maintain coverage of healthcare challenges to promote accountability and improve service delivery.

The appeal was made at a media roundtable on September 30, 2026, organised under the Global Fund GC7 N-THRIP project.

The meeting featured government health officials, community-based organisations and media partners, including TV360 Nigeria, Trust TV and Windflow Newspaper.

Participants examined Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) findings that identified poor sanitation, overcrowding, long waiting times, shortages of essential medicines and HIV-prevention supplies, unstable electricity affecting laboratory services, and staff shortages in some facilities.

The report also documented gains from community advocacy, including solar equipment installation and repairs to a faulty gate at Bulabulin Primary Healthcare Centre, valued at a combined ₦2.815 million.

Despite these improvements, concerns persist over a refuse dump opposite Maryam Abatcha Women and Children Hospital and reported shortages of essential medicines at some facilities.

Further engagement with relevant authorities is needed to verify the status of these issues and determine what action has been taken.

NEPWHAN called on media partners to report verified findings, obtain responses from responsible authorities and maintain follow-up coverage to ensure community concerns are addressed.

The meeting ended with a call for closer cooperation among communities, government institutions and the media to advance healthcare quality and accountability in Borno State.
