The Nigerian Army has honoured 22 senior non-commissioned officers of Headquarters 3 Brigade and its affiliated units for completing 35 years of dedicated service to the military and the country.
The retirees were celebrated at a send-off ceremony held at the Brigade Auditorium on Thursday, where the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, presented them with cash gifts and other items in recognition of their sacrifices and contributions.
According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Friday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Major Babatunde Zubairu, the ceremony was organised to appreciate the personnel for their years of meritorious service.
Jimoh commended the retirees for their loyalty, discipline and commitment to duty, noting that their contributions had strengthened the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
He acknowledged the sacrifices associated with military service, including separation from loved ones and enduring challenging conditions while placing national interests above personal comfort.
The commander urged the retirees to uphold the values of discipline and integrity, remain worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian Army, and use their wealth of experience to mentor younger generations.
He also encouraged them to contribute to community development and approach retirement with optimism, advising them to plan their finances carefully, acquire additional skills where necessary, and prioritise their health and well-being.
Speaking on behalf of the 22 retirees, the outgoing Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major, Master Warrant Officer Suleiman Mohammed, expressed gratitude to Jimoh for recognising their years of service.
Mohammed praised the commander’s leadership and commitment to personnel welfare, describing the gesture as an appreciation of the sacrifices made by soldiers who had devoted much of their lives to serving the country.
