My Toxicity Started at 6″: Ruger Opens Up About Childhood Heartbreak

Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has made a surprising revelation about the origins of his “toxic” behavior, tracing it back to a childhood heartbreak at the age of six.
Speaking in a candid interview on the Bro Bants podcast, the ‘Asiwaju’ hitmaker recounted how an early emotional experience left a lasting impact on him. Ruger explained that, as a child, he developed feelings for an older woman who affectionately called him her “boyfriend.” In his innocence, he believed they were in a real relationship.
That illusion was shattered when he caught her in an intimate moment with another man, viewed through her window.
“I got heartbroken because one day, I saw some guy smashing her through her window. The guy was t*g her up. I cried. I was traumatised. I started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus,” he revealed.
“That experience broke my heart. That’s what started my toxicity.”
Now 25, Ruger reflected on how deeply that incident affected him, saying it was his first brush with betrayal and emotional pain.
Earlier this year, the singer hinted at a major shift in his lifestyle. In a Snapchat post from February, Ruger shared his desire to settle down and leave behind his playboy ways, seemingly influenced by a wave of weddings among his peers.
“Everybody is just getting married. Got me questioning myself—how long will I continue this playboy shiii? I am settling down this year, period. I’ll soon be 30, tf,” he wrote.
From childhood heartbreak to contemplating marriage, Ruger’s journey reveals a complex emotional side behind his bold music persona.
