Morocco staged a comeback twice after falling behind to defeat Haiti 4-2 in an entertaining World Cup clash in Atlanta on Wednesday, though they missed out on finishing top of Group C behind Brazil.
Haiti, already eliminated, stunned Morocco by taking the lead on two occasions through a Yassine Bounou own goal and a brilliant strike from Wilson Isidor, marking their first World Cup goals in 52 years.
However, Morocco responded before the break with goals from Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari, who netted his third goal in as many tournament appearances.
Soufiane Rahimi then put Morocco ahead for the first time with a deflected effort that found the top corner, before Gessime Yassine sealed the victory late on.
Despite the win, Morocco finished second in the group on goal difference behind Brazil and will now travel to Monterrey for a Round of 32 clash, likely against either the Netherlands or Japan.
Haiti exited the tournament without a point but earned admiration for their spirited displays in their first World Cup appearance since 1974. Although already eliminated after defeats to Scotland and Brazil, their supporters in Atlanta remained vocal throughout, celebrating every attacking move with strong support.
