Manchester City are awaiting further news on Erling Haaland after the striker limped off during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League defeat to Portugal, raising concerns over his availability for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
Haaland signalled towards the bench before being replaced by Jørgen Strand Larsen in the 67th minute. The extent of the injury has yet to be established.
The setback comes at a crucial stage for City, with Haaland having scored seven goals this season and expected to play a key role against Liverpool.
The Norwegian striker had earlier gone close but dragged his effort wide as Norway suffered their third successive Nations League defeat.
Norway broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer controlled Martin Ødegaard’s cross before producing a superb half-volley into the top corner.
Portugal levelled two minutes later through João Cancelo, who fired into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Gonçalo Ramos completed Portugal’s comeback with 11 minutes remaining, converting from close range after being set up by João Félix.
Portugal were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when Francisco Conceição received two quick bookings for dissent.
The victory booked Portugal’s place in the Nations League quarter-finals, while Norway remain bottom of the group with two matches remaining.
Manchester City will now monitor Haaland’s condition closely as they prepare for their trip to Liverpool.
