A political support group has dismissed claims that former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is no longer a serious contender in Kebbi State’s 2027 governorship race. According to the Malami Support Organisation, such assertions only confirm his rising political relevance and the anxiety it has stirred within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to during a televised interview, the group’s Zonal Coordinator of New Media, Muhammad Al’amin, said Malami’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unsettled many APC members.
“Since Malami joined the ADC, many APC members in Kebbi have been having sleepless nights. Those saying the ADC is dead are the ones feeling threatened,” Al’amin said.
He accused the ruling party of straying from its founding principles, prompting Malami’s exit. Al’amin credited the former minister with being instrumental in APC’s rise in Kebbi and the emergence of Governor Nasir Idris.
Al’amin also criticized the current administration’s handling of education and healthcare, saying public discontent is growing. He further alleged political intolerance in the state, citing recent attempts to suppress opposition events, including a disrupted PDP stakeholders’ meeting.
