The Lagos State Government has cautioned celebrities, influencers, and residents against giving money to touts, warning that such actions worsen insecurity and environmental problems.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said offering money to miscreants only encourages them to remain on the streets, multiply, and reinforce lawlessness.
He noted that while some individuals may believe they are showing kindness, they are in fact contributing to a bigger societal challenge.
Wahab stressed that the government is committed to addressing the issue but requires the cooperation of residents to succeed.
“The public must support government efforts by refusing to encourage these miscreants so we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone,” he said.
This warning comes after concerns were raised by an X user, Ajenifuja about harassment and extortion by homeless boys and teenagers along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
