Lagos is set to welcome the CAF Awards on December 7, 2026, more than a decade after last hosting the continent’s prestigious football ceremony.
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the Nigerian city as the venue, with this year’s event scheduled for the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, in Iganmu.
It will be the fourth occasion Lagos hosts the awards, following ceremonies in 2008, 2013 and 2014. The last edition in the city was held on January 8, 2015, with former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure winning the African Player of the Year award for a record fourth straight time, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala claimed the women’s prize.
Toure had also taken the men’s award at the 2013 ceremony in Lagos, defeating Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel and Ivorian Didier Drogba.
The 2026 event is expected to attract leading African players, coaches, administrators and other football stakeholders as CAF recognises outstanding achievements across various categories.
The confirmation of Lagos as host now shifts focus to preparations for the ceremony and the unveiling of nominees for the different awards. The event will also provide the city another opportunity to stage a major continental sporting gathering.
