Lagos State Issues Traffic Advisory Ahead of Eyo Festival

Major Lagos Island Roads to Close Temporarily on Saturday

The Lagos State Government has advised motorists and commuters to plan ahead as major roads around Lagos Island will be temporarily closed on Saturday, December 27, 2025, to accommodate the Eyo Festival.

The advisory, released on Wednesday via the government’s official X account, listed key affected areas including the Third Mainland Bridge, Obalende, Onikan junction, CMS Bridge, Outer Marina, Apongbon Bridge, and Idumota axes.

Traffic Restrictions and Expected Congestion

According to the Lagos State Government, vehicular movement on streets along the Eyo procession routes will either be restricted or fully closed to ensure the safe passage of the festival.

“As Lagos comes alive with the rich traditions of the Eyo Festival, motorists and commuters are advised to plan ahead. Expect road closures and heavy traffic around key routes leading to Lagos Island. Kindly use alternative routes, follow traffic officials’ directives, and consider public transportation where possible,” the advisory read.

Recommended Alternative Routes

To ease congestion, the government recommended several detours:

Entering Lagos Island:

  • Third Mainland Bridge → Dolphin Road → Osborne Road → Alfred Rewane Road → Falomo Bridge → Akin Adesola or Lekki-Epe Expressway
  • Eko Bridge → Apongbon → CMS Bridge → Bonny Camp → Ozumba Mbadiwe Road → Law School → Lekki-Epe Expressway

Exiting Lagos Island:

  • Lekki-Epe Expressway → Victoria Island → Falomo Bridge → Alfred Rewane Road → Osborne Road → Dolphin Road → Third Mainland Bridge
  • Lekki-Epe Expressway → Law School → Ozumba Mbadiwe Road → Bonny Camp → CMS Bridge → Apongbon → Eko Bridge

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed at all diversion points to guide motorists and reduce delays.

Government’s Proactive Traffic Management

The Lagos State Government frequently issues traffic advisories for events likely to disrupt traffic, helping commuters plan ahead and avoid unnecessary delays. Previous examples include road closures for Ogudu/Ifako Bridge repairs and ACME Road in Ikeja during political primaries.

By issuing timely advisories and providing alternative routes, the state continues to manage traffic flow efficiently during major events, ensuring both public safety and festival enjoyment.
