Kano Tailor Targets Guinness World Record With 120-Hour Sewing Marathon for Schoolchildren

Kano-based fashion entrepreneur Abdulkadir Basri has embarked on a 120-hour sewing marathon in a bid to set a Guinness World Record while supporting disadvantaged schoolchildren.
The Chief Executive Officer of Basri Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited began the challenge on October 7 at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano. The attempt was scheduled to end on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Basri had announced the initiative, titled Sew for the Nation, in a video shared on his social media accounts on September 27, describing it as a record attempt with an educational purpose.
“My name is Abdulkadir Hassan Al Basri, I’m the CEO of Basri Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited. I am here to announce Sew for the Nation, a Guinness World Record attempt,” he said.
He explained that the marathon would focus on producing school uniforms for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds attending public schools.
“I’ll be sewing school uniforms to support the less privileged pupils at public schools,” he stated.
Basri said the initiative was also intended to highlight the importance of creativity, determination and vocational skills among young Nigerians.
“This is more than a record; this is for every dreamer, every artisan and every young Nigerian with a vision,” he said.
The entrepreneur is seeking to surpass the reported record of 106 hours, 55 minutes and 20 seconds, set by Nigerian tailor Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025.
However, Guinness World Records must assess the attempt against its verification requirements before any new record can be officially recognised.
