INEC Denies Registration of All Democratic Alliance Over Incomplete Compliance
Commission cites failure to meet statutory requirements as reason for delaying new party’s registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the proposed political party, All Democratic Alliance (ADA), cannot be registered at this time due to its failure to meet essential regulatory requirements.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, clarified the Commission’s position. He revealed that ADA, alongside several other aspiring political groups, has only submitted a letter of intent, which is not sufficient to trigger a registration process.
“We currently have numerous letters of intent from groups aiming to form political parties, but none has reached the application stage. Meeting the established criteria is a prerequisite before submitting a formal application,” Olumekun said.
Sources within the commission disclosed that one of ADA’s critical errors was addressing its correspondence to the INEC Chairman without including the term “electoral,” a requirement that aligns with statutory naming conventions and protocol.
As political interest grows ahead of future elections, INEC reiterated that all aspiring parties must adhere strictly to guidelines outlined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2022 before their registration can be considered.
With many political groups waiting in the wings, the Commission emphasized its commitment to transparency and rule of law in the party registration process.
