In a bid to tackle terrorism, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded a major operational breakthrough in Adamawa State, killing 16 terrorists and recovering weapons during coordinated operations conducted between September 30 and October 1, 2026.
The operations, carried out across Sector 4 of the Joint Operations Area, involved ground troops, air support and defensive engagements aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and preventing attacks on military formations.
According to the military, troops launched an ambush against a terrorist group in the Boima area of Gombi Local Government Area, where 16 terrorists were neutralised.
A follow-up search of the area reportedly led to the recovery of firearms, magazines and ammunition, further weakening the group’s ability to operate within the sector.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also carried out a precision strike on October 1 after intelligence and surveillance identified terrorists gathered alongside motorcycles in Sector 4.
The military said the targeted location was successfully hit and subsequently assessed as destroyed, forcing surviving members of the group to flee the area.
In another development, troops successfully repelled coordinated attacks on military positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha.
The attackers were forced to withdraw following resistance from the troops, according to the military.
However, the operations came at a cost, with three soldiers reportedly killed during the engagements. Other personnel who sustained injuries were evacuated for medical treatment and were said to be in stable condition.
Military authorities said clearance and follow-up operations are continuing in the affected areas as troops intensify efforts to track fleeing terrorists and prevent further attacks.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts by the Theatre Command to strengthen coordination between ground and air components while improving intelligence-led counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the North East.
The command said its forces would maintain pressure on terrorist groups and continue joint operations aimed at disrupting their activities while creating a more secure environment for communities across the region.
As Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary, the military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and safeguarding lives and property across the North East.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and restore lasting peace to affected communities.
