A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who is facing charges over an alleged claim to the position of Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
Adeniyi, 38, was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Umar on Wednesday on an eight-count charge filed by the Federal Government, involving allegations of conspiracy and forgery.
He pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
Following his plea, the prosecution requested that the defendant be kept in custody pending the commencement and conclusion of the trial. The court subsequently ordered that Adeniyi be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Oyedepo Rotimi, SAN, who sought the court’s permission for the charges to be formally read to the defendant so that he could enter his plea.
Adeniyi’s lawyer, Genesis Francis, did not oppose the request, after which the eight-count charge was read in open court and the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to each count.
The case, registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, also lists two other individuals identified as Femi and Anu, whose surnames were not provided. They are reportedly still at large.
After the plea was entered, the prosecution asked the court to set a date for trial and sought an order keeping Adeniyi in custody pending the proceedings.
The defence, however, drew the court’s attention to a pending bail application, informing the judge that the application had already been served on the prosecution and was ready for hearing.
Justice Umar opted to hear the bail application at the next adjourned sitting rather than immediately. The court subsequently fixed October 12 at noon for the hearing.
Until then, Adeniyi will remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre, while the court is expected to determine whether he should be granted bail pending trial.
