Grassroots governance: Tinubu urges LG chairmen to promote fairness, inclusive governance

Local government chairmen have been urged to make fairness, equity and inclusion central to governance, particularly in appointments and the distribution of opportunities and resources.

President Bola Tinubu gave the charge through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at a Federal Character Commission workshop for local government chairmen in Abuja.

The President said inclusive governance at the grassroots is essential to building public confidence, strengthening social cohesion and promoting national unity.

He urged council chairmen to rise above sectional interests and ensure that different communities and groups are adequately represented in local administration.

Tinubu also stressed that effective implementation of the Federal Character principle at the local level would help reduce tensions, foster a sense of belonging and create an environment for sustainable development.
