Governor Dauda Lawal has officially approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the 16th Emir of Gusau, following the passing of his father, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, on July 25, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, who noted that the appointment followed the unanimous recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers in line with established traditional protocols and legal frameworks.
Until his elevation to the throne, Abdulkadir held the prestigious title of Bunun Gusau. As the eldest son of the late monarch, his succession is seen as a continuation of a deeply respected royal lineage. He is also a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, the founder of the Gusau Emirate.
Governor Lawal congratulated the newly appointed Emir, describing his ascension as both historic and symbolic, coming at a time when traditional institutions are needed to foster peace, unity, and development.
The late Emir, Ibrahim Bello, who reigned for ten years, was widely revered for his wisdom, dignity, and commitment to community development. His death marked the end of a transformative era for the emirate.
The appointment of Abdulkadir has been met with wide approval across the state, as stakeholders, traditional leaders, and citizens express optimism for a reign that builds on peace, heritage, and progress.
