Concerns over the health of APC former National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, have triggered widespread speculation following unverified reports that he is critically ill in a London hospital.
However, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff, Comrade Mohammed Garba, has strongly refuted the claims, stating that while the 75-year-old politician is currently in London, he is not in any critical medical condition.
“He is fine,” Garba said in an exclusive interview on Monday. “At his age, it’s not unusual to have minor health issues, but the rumours suggesting a critical condition are simply untrue.”
Garba, who also served as Kano’s Commissioner for Information, added that Ganduje had been in London since the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which explains his absence at the funeral.
“We spoke with him just last night,” he added. “Anyone can fall ill, but to the best of my knowledge, he is in stable health.”
The former commissioner emphasized that if Ganduje’s health had indeed worsened, the family would not hesitate to inform the public so that supporters could offer prayers.
A family source who chose to remain anonymous echoed similar sentiments, saying: “I haven’t spoken with him directly, but those with him have assured us that there’s no cause for alarm. We’re also surprised by the circulating rumours.”
Dr. Ganduje, who stepped down as APC chairman in 2024, cited health reasons in his resignation letter. Yet, shortly after, he accepted an appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), a move that sparked political speculation.
Some believe his resignation was a strategic maneuver to pave the way for the return of his longtime political rival, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the ruling party.
As of now, no official medical statement has been released, but those close to Ganduje continue to insist he is doing well.
