Four police officers have been detained at the ‘A’ Police Division in Ilorin, Kwara State, following allegations of extorting a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.

The officers are currently under investigation after being implicated in the alleged extortion of Taiwo Kayode Taye, a student who was reportedly forced to pay N200,000 following his arrest.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the arrests and ongoing probe, ordered by Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who condemned the officers’ conduct and assured the public that justice would be served.

In an interview, CP Ojo stated,

“The officers have been arrested and investigations are progressing fully. Their actions are unacceptable and will not go unpunished.”

The incident reportedly occurred when Taiwo was stopped at Erin-Ile town while traveling to Osogbo, Osun State. He was initially detained at Ijagbo Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ilorin.

While in custody, the officers allegedly demanded that Taiwo unlock his phone. Upon his refusal, they allegedly extorted N200,000, which was transferred to an account registered under the name Lucy Akor.

This case has sparked public concern over police misconduct and underscores the Kwara Police Command’s commitment to tackling corruption within its ranks.

The ongoing investigation highlights efforts by the Kwara State Police Command to uphold professionalism and discipline among its personnel. The Command continues to urge members of the public to report misconduct to ensure accountability and maintain trust in law enforcement agencies.
