FG expands CNG network with new refuelling station in Abuja

The Federal Government has inaugurated a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling facility in Karu, Abuja, bringing the number of operational CNG stations across the country to 106.

The facility, operated by Rolling Energy Limited, was commissioned on Friday as part of ongoing efforts by the government to expand alternative fuel infrastructure and reduce dependence on petrol.

The commissioning was attended by the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV), Ismaeel Ahmed, alongside other government officials and representatives of the company.

In a statement announcing the development, the initiative said the expansion was aimed at improving access to CNG refuelling services and encouraging more motorists to embrace the alternative fuel.

It added that the government was working closely with private-sector investors and operators to develop the infrastructure required to support the increasing adoption of CNG-powered vehicles nationwide.

The initiative noted that expanding the refuelling network would make it easier for vehicle owners to access CNG, while supporting the Federal Government’s broader efforts to promote cleaner and more affordable transportation alternatives.

The development is also expected to strengthen private-sector participation in the country’s gas utilisation programme and improve access to alternative energy for commercial and private motorists.

Other dignitaries at the inauguration included the Permanent Secretary, State House, Temitope Peter Fashedemi; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Affairs, Toyin Subair; and Chief Executive Officer of Rolling Energy Limited, Mubarak Danbatta.

The Federal Government has continued to promote CNG adoption as part of its efforts to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources, reduce transportation costs and harness the country’s natural gas resources.
