Fabio Capello Warns Xabi Alonso of Real Madrid’s Unique Challenges Ahead of Managerial Appointment

Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has issued a cautionary message to Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso as the Spanish tactician prepares to take the helm at Real Madrid in the coming days.
Alonso is being considered by the La Liga giants as the successor to current manager Carlo Ancelotti, who will depart this summer to assume the role of Brazil’s national team coach.
In comments made during an appearance on El Partidazo de Cope, Capello emphasized that managing Real Madrid is unlike leading any other club.
“Xabi Alonso has done some great things. That may be true, but managing Real Madrid is completely different,” Capello said.
“It’s something else. It is more difficult and more important.”
Capello, like Ancelotti, has had two separate tenures in charge of Los Blancos. The former England boss led the team to La Liga titles during both of his spells, in 1997 and again in 2007.
Despite winning the league in his second stint, Capello was dismissed in June 2007 after just one season—an outcome that highlights the high expectations and intense scrutiny that come with the Real Madrid job.
Now 78 years old, the Italian veteran coach is deeply familiar with the unique pressures of managing at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Meanwhile, Alonso, who recently confirmed he will be stepping down from his role at Bayer Leverkusen, is set to officially take over as Real Madrid manager starting in June.
